How Do You Identify Bed Bugs?

The first step to killing bed bugs is to identify that they are the pests that are actually bothering you.

Here are some tips to help you find out just what you may be facing. In order to exterminate the bugs you need to make sure that they are the source of your problems and treat them correctly.

Head Boards

Bed bugs just love dining on your blood. Usually they eat in the hours just before dawn so it's likely that you will find any infestation near areas where you or your family sleep.

Finding The Problem

Your first hint of an infestation may be when you notice bites or blood smears from crushed bugs on your sheets. Depending upon your reaction to the bites you may feel an itch in the morning or notice a swelling around the bite.

A bed bug is only about 1/4 an inch in size so you will need to carefully search the areas around any suspected infestations. Use a flashlight to check behind and under cabinets, pictures and bed headboards.

Look for actual bedbugs, discarded bug shells, blood smears or fecal droppings. Check the seams of the mattresses and box springs. Pull out the drawers and check under them and inside cabinets.

If you find any actual bugs put them in a bottle or plastic bag to compare them to pictures that you can find on the Internet.

Pull the mattresses up from the frame and carefully check it for bugs. Look along the edges of carpet.

You need to make sure that you or any exterminator you might decide to use is meticulous in searching for the bed bug infestation.

Then What

In order to  get rid of bed bugs you must make sure to identify them correctly.  These nasty bugs are harder to get rid of than most other pests and require a special plan and insecticides to kill them.
